3. Third-party services
Nightstand uses the following third-party services to function. Each has its own privacy policy.
Firebase (Google)
We use Firebase for authentication, data storage, and crash reporting. Firebase Auth handles sign-in, Cloud Firestore stores your reading library, and Firebase Crashlytics helps us identify and fix bugs. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy
RevenueCat
RevenueCat processes subscription payments and manages entitlements. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous user ID (not your email) and your subscription state. RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy
Google Books API & Open Library
When you search for a book, we query the Google Books API and Open Library to find metadata (title, author, cover, page count). Your search queries are sent to these services. No account information is shared.
Apple App Store / Google Play
Payment processing for Premium subscriptions is handled entirely by Apple or Google through their respective app stores. We do not see or store your payment information.
4. Data storage & security
Your data is stored in Google Cloud (Firebase) infrastructure in the United States. We use industry-standard security practices including:
- Encrypted connections (TLS/HTTPS) for all data in transit
- Firebase Security Rules to ensure users can only access their own data
- Firebase Authentication for secure account management
No system is 100% secure. If you have concerns, contact us at the address below.
5. Your rights
Account deletion
You can permanently delete your Nightstand account and all associated data directly from the app:
- Open Nightstand → Profile tab
- Scroll to Settings
- Tap Delete Account
- Confirm by typing "DELETE"
Deletion is permanent and removes all your books, sessions, stats, and account data from our servers within 30 days.
Data export
You can export your reading data in the app under Profile → Settings → Export Data. This gives you a JSON file with your full reading history.
Opt out of analytics
You can opt out of anonymized analytics in Profile → Settings → Privacy.
Notification control
All notifications are optional. You can enable or disable streak reminders, badge alerts, and other notifications in Profile → Settings → Notifications.

7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Nightstand after changes are posted means you accept the revised policy.
